U-Pick Prices

2023 Tulip U-Pick

Our tulips cost $1.50 each and include the bulb.

Please bring a basket and a shovel with you to transport your tulips home. We will have a few loaner shovels and some recyclable containers if you need them.

Our U-Pick operates primarily on a self-service during opening hours. We accept Venmo (@hawriverfruitco), PayPal (info@hawriverfruit.com), and cash at all times. Should you prefer a staffed experience, please email or text to set up a time for your visit.

Tulip Care

Tulips are very hardy, so they don't need water for the ride home, especially if you leave them attached to their bulb. Even if they look a little limp, putting cut stems in a vase of cool water will perk them right up.

Once cut from the bulb, tulips will continue to grow, or "dance" in the vase. If you cut a tulip from its bulb, your best option is to compost the bulb. Because bulbs gain all their energy for next year's blooms from the flower and foliage, the bulb will not be able to absorb enough energy for a new bulb. Your bulb may produce foliage, but it will most likely not bloom for a year or more while it works to store that energy from the sun.

Replanting Tips:

If you are replanting the tulips from our field into your home garden, make sure you hydrate your tulips well upon replanting. They may droop for about a day while the roots adjust to the shock and work to absorb water.

For the best chance of blooms next year, let your tulips stand until they begin to shrivel and die back. Then, either dig up the bulbs and store in a cool, dry place until replanting time in the fall, or leave the bulbs in the ground for next year. Tulips don't like wet feet, so they will rot with excessive moisture. Deer and other critters also love tulips, so you'll want to keep an eye out for them.

U-Pick Procedures

Please check our website and social media (Facebook and Instagram) for opening times and field conditions.

Depending on what's left in the field and the weather, we may need to close the U-Pick on certain days.

At the beginning of the season, the field will likely be open with limited hours. Should you need other options, please send us an email and we will do our best to accommodate you. Hours and availability will change as the season progresses and will be dependent on the weather.

Because we are primarily self-service, we like to keep things simple. Any deals will be posted on social media and written on a board at the farm stand along with current prices. You can add up your total and place cash in the honor system cash box located at the stand or pay via Venmo. If you pay cash during self-service times, we will not be able to provide change, so please plan accordingly.

Please only pick what you intend to pay for and take home. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the beauty of our flower field. Feel free to snap pictures and tag us on Facebook and Instagram (@hawriverfruitco)!

Please note: We do not have public restroom facilities on site this season (they will be coming as soon as we can get them in!), so plan accordingly.

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed, but keep in mind we have pets and free range hens. Service animals are always allowed. If you need to bring a service animal, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make sure our animals will not interfere.

If you or a member of your group have a severe bee allergy, this may not be the activity for you. Our flowers need bees and there will be bees in the field hard at work pollinating our flowers, so keep this in mind.

Professional photographers are welcome for a small fee. Please email us for further information and appointments.
